PREGNANCY THROUGH THE WEEKS

Pregnancy is a very special time for both you and your partner. Knowing what is happening to you and your growing baby and also what are the dos and don’ts will make this period enjoyable and memorable. The information given herein may help you to reduce you anxiety calmly and knowledgeably.Pregnancy usually lasts for 40 weeks, calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period. (LMP) provided you have regular cycles.

i.e.: If your LMP was on the 01-01-2000
Your expected Date of Delivery is 08-10-2000
.i.e.: 9 month and 7 days OR 40 weeks OR 280 days later.

Though normal pregnancy may last from 37 weeks – 42 weeks.

Pregnancy is divided in to 3 parts called “trimesters”

1st trimester             from weeks 1 – 13

2nd trimester            from weeks 14  – 

3rd trimester             from weeks   -- 40

For the sake of convenience, we have divided and discussed pregnancy in terms of lunar months or 4-week periods.

10 Lunar months = 9 calendar month.

Your pregnancy will be divided as below

  • week 1- 4
  • week 5 – 8
  • week 9 – 13
  • wek 14 – 16
  • week 17 – 20
  • week 21 – 24
  • week 25 – 28
  • week 29 – 32
  • week 33 – 37
  • week 38 – 40
  • weeks 40 +

During each of the above period, major issues and concerns of pregnancy are highlighted;
